Me and Simon will be filming in South end on Sea for part of our music video this weekend as we would like to get a beach shot and a sun-set shot if possible. We also have the idea of filming a silhouette of two people walking along the beach as this would be interesting in our music video.

My Preliminary Exercise
Our preliminary exercise was useful as a practice as we got the chance to lip sync and see what angles to use when filming. We had a task of lip syncing along to 'Don't Go Breaking My Heart' by Elton John in which we all had the same song. Our preliminary exercise also gave us the chance to use different camera positions and techniques when editing on Final Cut Express.

Analysis of student digipak/ magazine advert/ video combination
Analysing digipak's and music video's from past students work enables us to see what is positive about there work and also any errors that have been made.
Here is an example made by two different students.
The first example is very colorful and girly. It is a good example of a digipak for a pop song as you imagine it to be about romance or love. The split screen of shoes, for the song titles and the bright colours attract you to the images.
Here is an example of a music video created by past students.
It is an effective video because there is lots of energy from the actresses and the lip syncing matches the music, unlike some other examples of music video's I have seen.
The split screening into four sections makes the video interesting and different from the normal filming. (For reasons from the owner of this video, it is unable to be watched on my blog, however you can still view it on youtube.com).

The second digipak in contrast displays different images. The images present a calm effect, as the colour blue is mellow and the spot light effects give the images a glittery effect. This digipak is simple but is easy to pick out the genre of the song and the mood coming from the 6 images. The image of the rose is bold but used as the main picture on the digipak along with the natural image of the tree.
Song Lyrics
Lyrics
Pour me another drink,
we’ll sit for another while
You tell me how much
you love me, How much you love me,
Draw up another part,
a part of your soul, your life’s goal
Simon, Simon don’t you
give up now, don’t you give up, don’t you give up now
Simon, Simon don’t you
give up now, don’t you give up, don’t you give up now
Obsession until
perfection, but no one can see how
big your heart can be,
Your love of life,
your love of death and everything in between
Simon, Simon don’t you
give up now, don’t you give up, don’t you give up now
Simon, Simon don’t you
give up now, don’t you give up, don’t you give up now
They see dark but you
see beauty, in the strangest places,
And empty spaces
Pour me another drink
we’ll sit for a while, I’ll tell you how much I love you,
How much I love you
Simon, Simon don’t you
give up now, don’t you give up, don’t you give up now
Simon, Simon don’t you
give up now, don’t you give up, don’t you give up now
You’ll find your place
someday with the unicorns and candyfloss
Together we’ll play, play

Digipak , Expanding Audiences and Sales
Digipaks are useful for selling purposes and are popular to different audiences depending on the genre of the song.
In order to increase sales, digipaks are a popular choice of interest for analysing the artist and finding out what they are interested in as most of them include extra information inside, which tells us additional information, such as the artists passion and reason for their songs.
Ways of increasing digipak sales can be having interesting front covers that we are drawn to by bright colours, interesting settings, patterns or an image of the artist. Usually the front cover of a digipak will match the meaning and emotions of the songs. The front cover of the digipak has to be attractive or quirky so that it stands out when people purchase the item.
The back cover contains a list of the songs featured on the track so that people can know what songs they want to listen to. In some digipaks there are additional pages such as a poster of the artist or band which attracts the person to the CD. The CD is usually patterned or has an element to match the artist's personality and song.
For example, Ellie Goulding's digipak images, font and chosen colours match the mood of her song and her music video. The front cover of her digipak is sparkly and there is a background of lights which match the song title 'Bright Lights'.

Example of Digipak Images
From the website http://www.coverdude.com/ which shows its audience lots of different CD covers and digipaks in which we can analyse to interpret a theme and mood to the song and music video.
The front cover already indicates a sense of sadness from the artist and a passionate story. The colour of this image contains, grey, black and white which we can match to sorrow or a broken heart.
The back cover of Adele's CD contains the name list of her songs, from the titles of her music we can tell that her music is about lovestory's and a broken heart. But also its about staying strong which comes across to us by her look of expression.
The CD itself has the title of her Album, and the bright colour green is attracting to visualise. We can indicate from these three images that the song and music of Adele is mainly targeted towards women as her songs are about love and relationships.
Analysing Rihanna's Digipak
Here is some digipak analysis in a presentation format which I created on Prezi.com
Analysing Rihanna's Digipak
Rihanna's example of a six panelled Digipak is very effective. The promotion of the advert being for her album called 'LOUD' matches the theme of the song very well as the vibrant colours and romantic tone displays the genre of music she has. The album cover is especially effective because it attracts the audience with her beauty to her fans. I really like the use of colour in this digipak because it's prettiness stands out and these images would make me want to buy the CD.
Here is some digipak analysis in a presentation format which I created on Prezi.com
What is a Digipak designed for?
A Digipak is 6-8 images for a CD in a physical case in which we can gain an idea about what the song will be about, what mood the song will be and then what the video will include from this information. A digipak usually includes a front cover image of the artist or the theme of the song, a back cover of the list of songs on the track and the other 4 images of the artist or appropriate image matching the tone of the song. A Digipak's use of case holds the CD inside. For popular fans of artists, a digipak might also include a poster of their favourite band or artist as an extra to their purchase.
We can tell from a Digipak on what the song will be about, or the mood of the song by its...
- Chosen images, which portray different emotions such as sad, happy, angry, or romantic, we can analyse the colour of the digipak, for example if the colours were bright then we could assume the music would consist of a happy mood, or if the digipak uses pastel colours such as light pinks and greens we could imagine a romantic side to the song from these colours and a story of love, therefore assuming the instrumental music could be a soft acoustic guitar to match the images. If the image on the front cover of the digipak contains lots of flowers, jewellery and pinks and reds, we would associate the song to be a romantic, or a girly pop song as the image matches this.
- The Title of the Song/Album will indicate what type of music will be and the tone of the music.
- Style of font - as this could give us an indication if the music is going to be rock, acoustic or country.
- A personal message from the artist/ or a paragraph about their life- this would tell us if there passionate about a certain type of music, or if they have been learning country, acoustic guitar as the music would then have a more romantic tone.
- We could also include the song list on the back of the digipak as the names of the written songs by the artist can tell us what the song will be about, or what genre the song will be.
- The CD itself with the tracks on can also be designed to match the tone of the song.
However due to modern day trends, most people of a young generation do not buy digipaks or CD's anymore as there is now new technology of downloading and itunes.
Confirming accessibility of our chosen song
Me and Simon my media partner are both using a song by a friend for our music video. Here she has confirmed that it is okay to use the song which will avoid any issues with copyright and allow us to further put our video on youtube or another website when it is finished.

Our Story Board
This story board created in our media lesson will portray an idea of what themes will be in our music video and each of the shots. We took images of each of the shots and uploaded them on Final Cut Express to make a video. Our storyboard contains about 16 shots, but we will also be including shots of lip syncing inbetween and other images in which we want to film. As our song has a soft theme and acoustic guitar we will be filming in places such as the forest, beach, sunset and clouds. These themes also have a natural effect that match the acoustic music in our song and create a calm mood.
